Is scooter the Nex big thing?

More drivers are looking to cut commuting times and costs by switching to a scooter – and the new Gilera Nexus 300 is perfect for those with long trips to work.
Using a 300cc motor, it's easily capable of keeping up with motorway traffic, yet can still slice through jams. It bridges the gap between the 125cc and 500cc models, and offers a good compromise between economy and performance – although the size of the engine means drivers switching from four wheels will need to pass their full bike test.
While the 300cc replaces the 250cc model, there is more to it than simply a bigger motor. The unit, shared with Vespa's GTS300 Super, has similar power to the 250cc, but delivers 13 per cent more torque at lower revs. The chassis is identical to the Nexus 500's, so should be more than capable of handling the extra urge. A 15-inch front wheel helps boost stability, while the original wide rear tyre remains.
Practicality isn't ignored in the pursuit of performance, as there are 34 litres of underseat storage which Gilera claims will take a full-face helmet. A 33-litre top box is available as an option.
